About · How we work

An independent review site, run by a real person.

We are a one-person shop focused on honest, unhurried reviews of AI creative tools. Affiliates help us pay the bills — they never shape the rating.

Who writes this

Hi, I'm Marcus Hale.

Marcus Hale, author

Senior AI Tools Editor

12+ years reviewing creative software and AI tools for outlets including The AI Observer and PROMPT·MAG.

I've been testing creative software since the Adobe CS3 era, which in AI-years is a geological epoch ago. What hasn't changed is the job: run the tool against a real brief, ship the output, see what breaks. Everything on this site comes from that.

When I'm not reviewing tools, I edit corporate and documentary work — which is how I know where AI video can actually earn its keep and where it can't.

Methodology

How we test.

Every tool review on this site follows the same process. It's not fancy, but it's consistent — and that's how you get comparisons that actually mean something.

01

Thirty days of daily use

We don't publish a review after a weekend with a product. Every tool goes through 30 consecutive days of real use — on actual client briefs, not staged "evaluations". Shorter than that and you miss the onboarding friction, the first paid bill, and the 3 a.m. render queue.

02

The same 12-prompt brief across competitors

When comparing tools, we use an identical 12-prompt brief covering product, narrative, motion graphics, portrait, and editorial use cases. Every tool gets the same prompts, the same iterations, and the same acceptance criteria. Then we score each output blind with a small panel.

03

Five scoring dimensions, not one

Our overall score is a weighted average of ease of use, output quality, speed, value for money, and customer support. Weights are published (methodology page) and have been stable since 2025 — we don't re-weight to change a verdict.

04

We pay for every tool we review

We pay out of pocket for every subscription — no comped accounts, no review-unit access. If a tool's paid tier has a catch, we'll feel it the same way you would.

05

Updates, not memories

AI tools move fast. We revisit every review at least every 90 days and update pricing, features, and scores when the product changes meaningfully. The "last updated" date at the top of every review is real.

We are an affiliate partner

We earn a commission if you upgrade via our links, at no extra cost to you. It is a small percentage, it goes entirely to keeping the site running, and it has never changed a score.

Scores change when the product changes

When Deevid shipped native 4K, the score went up. When a tool removed a feature we valued, the score went down. Expect honest motion in both directions on every review here.

We respond to readers

If you bought something based on our review and it didn't hold up, email us. We reply to every message, and reader feedback is how half of these reviews stay accurate.

We don't take sponsored content

No sponsored posts, no "partner reviews", no paid placements. Every headline on this site is our editorial call.
